Although Skyfall features sequences set in Shanghai and Macao, most of the Chinese locations were recreated at Pinewood Studios. (3) The Aston Martin DB5 on display in Beijing to promote Skyfall (4) Although no stars were present at the Beijing premiere, Daniel Craig did appear on screen in a live feed after the screening to talk about Skyfall. The film itself has been censored in China with the removal of the scene where hitman Patrice (Ola Rapace) shoots a security guard in Shanghai. References to prostitution rings in Macau are removed during the casino sequence featuring Bérénice Lim Marlohe (Sévérine), and changes are also made to the sequence where Silva (Javier Bardem) tells of his capture and torture by the Chinese security forces. These alterations are made by modifying the Chinese subtitles but retaining the original English dialogue.

Istanbul also features prominently in From Russia With Love (1963) and The World Is Not Enough (1999). The cast and crew of Skyfall had attended a press conference in the city in April 2012.
