COLLECTING 007 – UK Souvenir Brochures & magazines
WRITTEN & COMPILED BY KEVIN HARPER

The first official James Bond related brochure was published in 1964 and featured stills from the first three films, Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. James Bond In Focus was a glossy 64-page souvenir brochure and featured in the Goldfinger Exhibitors’ Campaign Book as one of many marketing tie-ins to the new James Bond film. The same brochure was published in the USA by Dell under the title Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 portrayed by Sean Connery but had a different front and inside front cover, although the rest of the content was identical [see ROLLOVER image below]. Thunderball had two souvenir brochures to accompany its record-breaking general release in 1966. The CORGI publication James Bond In The Incredible World Of Thunderball could be purchased in newsagents and high street stores such as W. H. Smith; whilst James Bond In Thunderball was available exclusively in ODEON cinemas. Some later films in the series also had an official souvenir brochure or poster magazine available to purchase in cinemas during the original release of film. Souvenir brochures were not produced for every title and usually reserved for ‘Epics’ or ‘Roadshow’ releases of major films in the Fifties and Sixties. The brochures usually contained details of the stars appearing in the films, technical credits, stills and a synopsis of the film together with historical data if appropriate.

The publication of brochures and magazines dedicated to one film stopped at the end of the last century, and nowadays the James Bond films are promoted with features in all manner of physical publications and online platforms in the lead up to, and during their release. The sheer number of magazines, websites and social media platforms covering the James Bond films nowadays makes it impossible to compile a definitive list of everything available for any given titles since the start of the new millennium.
