COLLECTING 007 – UK CORGI Toys Gift Sets

In addition to their
original standalone release CORGI's James Bond toys were also issued as
part of Gift Sets. Listed below are all the Gift Sets released by CORGI
from 1966-1980. As these were usually given to children as birthday or
Christmas presents, very few have survived with their original packaging.
The Gift Sets are consequently very hard to find on the collectors market
and realise some of the highest prices for Bond toys when sold in auction.
The first issue of the CORGI Toys ‘All Winners’ Gift Set in October 1966
(#46) originally included an E-Type Jaguar and four other sports and
racing cars. Due to the instant popularity of the Aston Martin DB5, CORGI
replaced the E-Type with Bond's gadget-laden car in a revised edition
released two months later. The set included the ‘Secret Instructions’
accessories released with the standalone version of the DB5, and also 16
plastic bollards and a choice of self-adhesive numbers for the racing
cars. The version of the set containing the Aston Martin was only
available for a short time and around 9,000 units were sold. The original
edition of the Gift Set No. 46 remained in production until its withdrawal
in 1969. |
