With the growing interest
in vinyl in recent years there have been several re-issues
of James Bond soundtracks on long playing record aimed at the collectors
market. Casino Royale was the first new Limited Edition vinyl
release of a James Bond score when it was issued by Sony Classical
on July 31, 2020. The original issue was a Gatefold Double-LP limited to
2,000 copies and pressed on translucent blue vinyl. This was followed a
re-issue on black vinyl on April 16, 2021; and two further Limited
Editions of 1,500 copies on gold vinyl, and 250 copies on red vinyl on
March 23, 2023. The Limited Edition releases included a 36" X 24" folded
poster
and secret inscriptions in the run-out groove of each disc.
Thomas Newman's soundtrack for
Skyfall (2012) was originally released in Europe by Sony Classical
on October 29, 2012, as a Limited Edition Gatefold Double-LP on black
vinyl with a four-page booklet.
An American release did
not appear until 2017, when the album was re-issued by New York based
independent boutique label Brookvale Records. Four different variants were
released, each featuring a pop-up gatefold centrefold and a 16-page
full-sized photo booklet. Two editions were limited to 500 copies each and
issued as white with red splatter vinyl and blue and white swirl vinyl;
with two further versions limited to just 250 copies each on gold and
black vinyl, and a standard black vinyl version. |

Sony Classical re-issued
Skyfall again in Europe in 2018 as a Limited Edition of 1,500
copies on translucent black vinyl, and again on silver vinyl in 2022 as a
10th Anniversary Limited Edition of 1,500 numbered copies. A further
edition released in the USA in 2025 was issued as a red vinyl variant, once
again limited to 1,500 copies. Spectre was
originally only issued in Europe as a standard black vinyl Gatefold
Double-LP from Decca Records in 2016, following its original CD release in
2015. The album was re-released by Decca on March 29, 2024, as a Limited Edition
on white vinyl. |

Since 2017 American
independent label
La-La Land
Records have been releasing
expended and remastered two-disc
editions of the James Bond film soundtracks on Compact Disc.
Starting with the scores by David Arnold, the company moved on to
deluxe
anniversary editions featuring the music of John Barry, George Martin
and Michael Kamen. In 2024 La-La Land Records were approached
by MGM/EON Productions to work on a 60th Anniversary Compact Disc
edition of John Barry's Goldfinger (1964) soundtrack. Since the
scoring master tapes no longer exist all La-La Land could do
was utilise the original album masters. The album
tracks were remastered and re-sequenced into film order. As with the
earlier 2003 EMI CD release, the new edition was a hybrid of the UK
and US album masters to present the longest version possible, but with
far superior sound quality. |
|
La-La Land's
2024 single CD release included John Barry's instrumental version of
the title track (missing from the original 1964 UK album), plus
Anthony Newley's demo of the title song (not released since the
EMI 1992 30th Anniversary Limited Edition CD), and the single version
of ‘Goldfinger’ featuring a different vocal performance by Shirley
Bassey presented as bonus tracks. On June 1, 2025, La-La Land
Records released a remastered and re-sequenced vinyl LP re-issue
of
Goldfinger (1964), but this time
omitting the three bonus tracks from the CD edition. Produced by Neil S.
Bulk, restored by Chris Malone and mastered by Doug Schwartz, the
remastered LP release, pressed on 180 Gram coloured vinyl, presents a new playlist - a hybrid of the UK and US album sequencing for the most
complete vinyl release of the score to date. The record
was issued in two vinyl colorways: a “Fort Knox Bullion” Limited
Edition of 700 units
available exclusively from La-La-Land, and a “Body Paint
Gold” Limited Edition of 300 units
exclusive to 007 Store. The gatefold jacket is identical on both
variants and includes an 8-page
booklet featuring liner notes by renowned journalist and author Jon
Burlingame and sharp art design by Jim Titus. |
