Born 2nd March 1968
Born in Chester, England,
Daniel Craig’s interest in acting began at school, but began in earnest
when aged 16 he joined the National Youth Theatre, before being accepted
at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After graduating in 1991 he
began to win minor roles in a number of TV series and plays, before
appearing as ‘Geordie’ Peacock in the major BBC TV serial Our Friends
In The North (1996).
This landmark role soon brought Craig to the eye of many a casting
director and he was soon appearing in his first blockbuster movie, Lara
Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) opposite Angelina Jolie. Other major film
roles quickly followed including Road To Perdition (2002) starring
with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, The Mother (2003) with Anne Reid,
Sylvia (2003) with Gwyneth Paltrow, Layer Cake (2004) with
Sienna Miller, Enduring Love (2004) with Rhys Ifans, and Steven
Spielberg’s Munich (2005).
Craig’s casting in the role of James Bond for Casino Royale created
a storm of protest from an area of Bond fans, and the British tabloid
press declared ‘open season’ on the new Bond actor, attempting to ridicule
him at every opportunity. Craig’s detractors were put firmly in their place
when his first 007 film opened in November 2006 to almost unanimous rave
reviews from the world’s media and public alike; Daniel Craig’s
performance was unlike anything seen before in the Bond series, and
rivalled Sean Connery’s debut for its confident, commanding and
charismatic interpretation of Ian Fleming’s 007 as a believable secret
agent.
Daniel Craig starred as James Bond five times in
Casino Royale (2006)
Quantum of Solace (2008)
Skyfall (2012)
Spectre (2015)
No Time To Die (2021)
