 A selection of 
          one-of-a-kind storyboards and artwork by Maurice Binder is being 
          offered by Heritage Auctions in Dallas, TX. Included in the auction 
          are the original storyboards for the iconic Dr. No (1962) title 
          sequence featuring the celebrated gun barrel opening. Also on offer 
          are original 
          storyboards from You Only Live Twice (1967); On Her 
          Majesty's Secret Service (1969); Diamonds Are Forever 
          (1971); Live And Let Die (1973); For Your Eyes Only 
          (1981), and A View To A Kill (1985). Also in the auction are 
          storyboards for the teaser trailers for The Man With The Golden Gun
          (1974) and A View To A Kill (1985), which were also among 
          those designed by Maurice Binder. A collection of photographs 
          featuring Binder with various cast and crew from the James Bond films, 
          and a series of 50 photographs of him filming the title sequences with 
          Roger Moore and various nude models are also included. The 
          exceptionally rare items are all from the family of Maurice Binder and

      Storyboard Title Sequence Artwork for Dr. No (1962)This lot consists of 23 storyboards of the opening credits, five 
      storyboards represent the genesis of the concept, each illustration board 
      (measuring 21.5" X 15.5") features six panels measuring 6" X 3.5" 
      comprised of paste-up artwork with stencilled letters, hand-drawn 
      silhouettes in ink of James Bond appearing down the gun barrel and 
      hand-cut coloured gel overlays representing blood other colour elements on 
      the artwork. The remaining 18 boards (measuring 20" X 15") are numbered in 
      series (from 1-18), each depicting a single 14.5" X 9.25" photostat with

      Storyboard Title Sequence Artwork for Diamonds Are Forever (1971)This lot consists of five illustration boards (measuring approximately 
      21.5" X 15.5"), each featuring four panels measuring approximately 8.25" X 
      4" comprised of paste-up photographic art with colour gel overlay 
      depicting images of cat's eyes and various shots of the female form 
      adorned with paste-up images of diamonds. Lot includes two cases of faux 
      diamonds, one labelled “Historical Diamonds” containing 14 faux stones; 
      the other unmarked case containing eight faux stones (both cases have 
      missing stones from original set). These sample diamonds were ordered by 
      Binder for the project, and it is unknown if any of these sample diamonds 
      were utilized in the photography of the opening sequence.

      James Bond viewed through a gun barrel* and various female imagery and 
      stencilled letters. One board features Scottish singer Sheena Easton, the 
      only Bond theme singer to be featured in the opening credits, and has 
      handwritten direction notes in pencil below the images. [*Some of the 
      artwork in this lot appears to relate to the Live And Let Die teaser 
      trailer (also designed by Maurice Binder) rather than the actual For Your 
      Eyes Only main title sequence].

      accomplished in pencil and ink conceptualized by credited title artist 
      Maurice Binder, a dynamic and visually stunning montage of images and 
      animation set to the iconic theme song of the same name, performed by 
      Duran Duran. The sequence begins transitions into a series of abstract 
      visuals that depict various elements of the plot. The imagery includes 
      silhouettes of dancers, explosions, and fire, all rendered in a striking 
      neon colour palette. The sequence also features the iconic “gun barrel” 
      shot, which is a signature element of the James Bond franchise. Each page

          Original French Petit Poster and Motion Picture 
          Soundtrack Artwork for On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) Mixed media on 
          illustration board measuring 12.5" X 17.5" depicting George Lazenby as 
          James Bond 007 wearing a tuxedo while holding a pistol atop a baroque, 
          Bond-themed crest surrounded by beautiful Bond girls, below which is 
          painted “007”. This artwork (by
          Terence Gilbert) was used for the French Petit film poster, 
          and affixed at the top edge is a clear overlay hand-painted “James 
          Bond” that fits below “007” which was used for the
          motion picture 
          soundtrack album cover as well as the On Her Majesty's Secret 
          Service production stationery. Lot includes a vintage motion 
          picture soundtrack album (sleeve is unglued), as well as two blank 
          sheets of production stationery featuring this artwork.Sold For: $45,000

          Fergus Hall Tarot Cards. Art and Proofs from Live and Let Die 
          (1973) A vintage original 
          collection of artworks including three preliminary tarot card 
          paintings accomplished on canvas attached to particle board by Fergus 
          Hall, and five uncut tarot card artist's proofs with colour guides. 
          Tarot cards are used as a recurring motif throughout the film. The 
          cards are used by the villain, Dr. Kananga (Yaphet Kotto), to 
          communicate with his henchmen and to intimidate his enemies. The tarot 
          cards in Live And Let Die are used to add a sense of mystery 
          and mysticism to the film and to underscore the supernatural powers of 
          Kananga's character. The eighth instalment in the James Bond series. 
          The film is directed by Guy Hamilton and stars Roger Moore as James 
          Bond and Jane Seymour as Bond's love interest Solitaire. The original 
          art each measure approximately 12.5" X 8". The artist's proofs range 
          from 15" X 7.5" to 15.5" X 21.5".

          2023 - The lots featured on this page sold for $505,625 and were 
          all acquired by the same mystery buyer. Maurice Binder's script for A 
          View To A Kill (1985) sold for $15,000; his final shooting script 
          for The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) sold for $2,750, and a 
          collection of personal crew gifts from the 1980s sold for $2,000. |  |
