Baron Samedi prop head and top hat from Live And Let Die up for auction at Bonhams Los Angeles

LOT 167 - A Baron Samedi Prop Head from Live And Let Die (1973)
A prop head for the character of Baron Samedi played by Geoffrey Holder. The realistic prop head of painted latex rubber with glass eyes, with removable section of skull to reveal inner animatronic components [not working]. The head was fabricated by American special make-up effects creator Rick Baker [pictured above left]. Provenance: The Estate of Geoffrey Holder. 13 X 7 in.
SOLD FOR $35,312.50 inc. premium

This head is seen on screen in the scene where Baron Samedi has taken Solitaire (played by Jane Seymour) hostage on San Monique to engage in a sacrificial voodoo ritual. When Bond (Roger Moore) arrives to rescue Solitaire, Baron Samedi rises from a grave and Bond shoots him, only to find that it is a decoy. This head was used as the decoy in this scene, with the removable section being blown off by the gun. The mechanics inside the head were used to move the eyes which roll back into the head after it is shot.
