OMEGA presents James Bond Exhibition in Geneva

OMEGA - James Bond Exhibition

Biel, Switzerland, December 13, 2006. OMEGA, Swiss luxury watchmaker and creator of “the Bond watch”, has opened its James Bond Exhibition to the public at Cité du Temps in Geneva, Switzerland. On display until end of January 2007 is an exclusive selection of photographs, OMEGA watches worn by members of the cast, and props used in the filming of Casino Royale, the 21st and most recent film adventure featuring Ian Fleming’s legendary British spy. Among the artefacts on display are a number of personal items—a book of poems, a handkerchief, a letter, keys, a bottle of perfume—belonging to Vesper Lynd, played by the beautiful French actress, Eva Green. Additional items of interest to Bond fans include the inhaler used by Bond’s nemesis, Le Chiffre, an architectural scale model of the fictional “Casino Royale” in Montenegro and, naturally, the Bond watch worn in the film by Daniel Craig, the British actor playing James Bond for the first time.

In point of fact, Daniel Craig wears two OMEGA watches in Casino Royale. The first is a striking black Planet Ocean, the professional diver’s watch Bond wears before he earns his notorious “license to kill”. The second is “the Bond watch” familiar from earlier films in the long-running series, an OMEGA Seamaster Professional. Also on view in the Geneva exhibition are producer Barbara Broccoli’s copy of the Casino Royale screenplay, Bond’s money clip and credit cards, British passports made out to Bond and Vesper Lynd, short videos with scenes from the film, and large-scale photographs from the set, many of which have not previously been released elsewhere.

The OMEGA James Bond Exhibition is open to the public at Cité du Temps, the Swatch Group cultural centre in the heart of Geneva, Switzerland. The historic building at Pont de la Machine 1 has been a city landmark since the 1840s. Originally constructed to supply water to the city’s new fountains and recently restructured by the Swatch Group, it has become a vital source of energy for the arts and culture in Geneva. The interactive venue accommodates cultural events, conferences, permanent exhibitions and a broad range of temporary exhibitions.

Celebrating the return of James Bond to the silver screen, OMEGA has released two new limited-edition Bond watches: The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Casino Royale, available in a limited edition of 5,007, and the James Bond Limited Series, an exclusive new OMEGA Seamaster Professional featuring the classic blue “Bond” bezel and 007 numerals at the tip of the seconds hand, limited to 10,007 pieces. Among the first Bond watches to be equipped with the exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial Escapement, both models are professional diver’s watches and COSC-certified chronometers.

OMEGA unveil their latest Limited Edition James Bond watch

Seamaster Planet Ocean Casino Royale Limited Edition

Even whilst relaxing on the beach, only the best is good enough for James Bond, an ethos perfectly reflected in his choice of diving partner. The Seamaster Planet Ocean Casino Royale is a potent combination of technical complexity and aesthetic elegance.

The Planet Ocean model is identified by its distinctive bezel, which recalls the original Seamaster 300 metre models, albeit with a choice between classic and highly contemporary interpretations of this historical theme. Meticulous attention to detail resulted in a slightly different bezel design with a model taking on a resolutely sporty look. The unidirectional rotating bezel has minute graduations for the first fifteen minutes, numbers for the subsequent ten-minute sectors and a luminous triangular marker at 12 o’clock. Other features indicating that this is a professional divers’ watch are the watertight screw-in crown, a screw-in case back and the helium escape valve (located at 10 o’clock and embossed with “He”). The Seamaster Planet Ocean is water resistant to 600 metres (2000 feet).

The matt black dial also offers excellent clarity, thanks to applied luminous hour markers and Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock, with date window at 3 o’clock. The facetted arrowhead hour and minute hands also have luminous SuperLuminova inserts, and a luminous arrowhead seconds hand with orange tip offers ultimate visibility down to the last second. Beneath the surface is OMEGA’s calibre 2500 Co-Axial Escapement movement, which is a COSC-certified chronometer and has a power reserve of 48 hours.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean Casino Royale is available with a 45.5 mm diameter case and a black rubber strap. This Limited Edition has exclusive features: the central second hand bears the “007” gun logo in orange, that recalls the code name of the famous MI6 secret agent. The stainless-steel case back is embossed with the Casino Royale logo as well as the series number of each Limited Edition watch.

Limited to 5,007 pieces, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Casino Royale will be a perfect collector’s item for all James Bond aficionados.

Bond is back and as the intrepid secret agent enters the Casino Royale on his first mission as 007 the stakes are perilously high. Will his impenetrable demeanour and tactical moves be enough to break the concentration of his notorious opponent Le Chiffre and beat him at the poker table? As the intrigue unfolds James Bond knows that apart from his instinct, his only ally on this arduous assignment he can trust implicitly, is the precision and accuracy of his Seamaster Professional 300m complete with the exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial movement.

The OMEGA Seamaster Professional 300M is a perfect synthesis of form and function combining a classic stainless steel case and bracelet with characteristics and functions that are indispensable for professional divers: a screw-in case back and a screw-in crown that ensure water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel with minute markers, a helium escape valve and a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

The distinctive ‘James Bond’ watch has a unique design within the Seamaster collection with a blue dial with wave imprint and applied luminous hour markers, steel bezel with blue aluminium ring, skeleton rhodium-plated hands coated with Super Luminova and the second hand with red tip and luminous dot. The OMEGA logo and Seamaster name are also applied on the dial, with the Seamaster name highlighted in red.

The OMEGA Seamaster Professional 300M is a certified chronometer which uses a self-winding movement (OMEGA calibre 2500) fitted with the exclusive and revolutionary Co-Axial Escapement, which reduces friction in the movement and offers better long-term accuracy, and a free-sprung balance, which further increases the precision and accuracy over a longer period of time.

The OMEGA Seamaster Professional 300M is available in two sizes 36.25 or 41 mm and comes with a choice of either a brushed and polished steel bracelet with a fold-over safety clasp or a more sportive blue rubber strap with white stitching and fold-over clasp.

OMEGA unveil their new James Bond 007 watch

OMEGA Seamaster James Bond Limited Edition watch

OMEGA has unveiled a new Seamaster James Bond 007 Limited Edition watch, featuring a version of the classic gun barrel logo. The new James Bond 007 edition will be one of the first 007 watches to feature OMEGA's new Co-Axial Escapement.

The Co-Axial Escapement is proprietary OMEGA technology that drastically reduces the amount of friction in the ‘heart’ of the automatic mechanism and provides long-term reliability and accuracy. The Seamaster’s performance will be further improved by a free-sprung balance that allows the user to make finer adjustments to the watch. The automatic OMEGA calibre 2500 is housed in a 41mm stainless steel case, and includes a 48-hour power reserve.

A screw-down back seals the mechanism in to the case and features the number of the limited edition run. The face of the watch features a stylised embossed version of the classic gun barrel logo, and each watch will also be engraved and embossed with the 007 and gun logo. The second hand on the watch face ends with the 007 and gun logo, and the watch is completed by a brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet and safety clasp, engraved with the 007 and gun logo.

This limited edition series, not surprisingly, will run for 10,007 pieces.
