Sir Roger Moore added his
voice to the campaign to attract funding to restore and preserve Bletchley
Park on his visit to the World War Two codebreaking centre on 17th October
2008.
Sir Roger was at Bletchley Park to promote Twentieth Century Fox Home
Entertainment’s launch of six
Bond films on Blu-ray Disc. After a true Bond-style arrival at
Bletchley Park by helicopter, Sir Roger Moore characteristically drove
himself the short journey to the Bletchley Park Mansion in the chic new
Aston Martin DBS. He met with World War Two codebreaker, Mavis Batey, who
has recently released a book entitled From Bletchley With Love
about Ian Fleming’s wartime work and he posed with some of the famous
vehicles from the Bond films, before agreeing with journalists that the
government should be stepping in to provide funds for the preservation of
Bletchley Park.
Simon Greenish, Bletchley Park Trust director, welcomed the support of Sir
Roger Moore, saying “This year we have been encouraged by incredible
support from an array of prominent individuals who have visited Bletchley
Park, including TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, New
Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and Dr Fran Allen, AM Turing Award
Winner, to name just a few. It is marvellous to receive the backing of
such a high-profile celebrity as Sir Roger Moore to coincide with the same
month as the release of the new Bond film, Quantum of Solace. There
is clearly heightening national and international awareness of the urgent
need for funds for the restoration and preservation of Bletchley Park.” |
