Lot #298 - Set of Three Fort Knox Gold Bars Goldfinger (1964)

Set of Three Fort Knox Gold Bars Goldfinger (1964)

Three Fort Knox gold bars from Goldfinger (1964). In the climactic finale, James Bond (Sean Connery) fought Oddjob (Harold Sakata) amongst the stacks of gold bars Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe) attempted to irradiate in Fort Knox.

Based on the 1959 novel by Ian Fleming, Goldfinger was the third of EON Productions’ James Bond films and the first of four directed by Guy Hamilton. Goldfinger was the first Bond film to win an Academy Award® (for Best Sound Editing) and is today considered by most Bond aficionados to be when the franchise truly found its footing, setting the precedent for the many Bond films that would follow over the next 50 years and onward. The extensive use of gadgets, the standalone cold open before the credits sequence, and the mix of action and humour - all of which would become mainstays of the Bond films - were pioneered by Goldfinger.

This set of bars, which includes two cast from plaster and one cast from resin, originates from Planet Hollywood. Each is finished to appear golden with fastening strips affixed on two bars for stacking. The set shows evidence of intentional production distressing together with wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age. Dimensions: (each) 11.5" X 3.5" X 2" (29.25 cm X 9 cm X 5.25 cm).

Soviet Henchmen Ski Goggles The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

A pair of Soviet henchmen ski goggles from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). In the pre-credits scene, Soviet henchmen donned matching ski goggles while chasing James Bond (Roger Moore) down an Austrian mountainside, culminating in the super-spy's 7,000-foot ski jump and the deployment of a cheekily patriotic British-themed parachute.

Among the most memorable stunt sequences in the history of action cinema, the ski chase was shot mainly in the St. Moritz area of Switzerland, though the iconic jump itself was filmed on Mount Asgard on Canada's Baffin Island. Long-time franchise director John Glen named the sequence - at the time, the most expensive film stunt ever performed - his favourite of any in the Bond franchise.

These foam-padded vented Carrera ski goggles originate from Planet Hollywood. They are inset with a tinted plastic visor and secured with an elasticated cinching strap. The goggles show evidence of intentional production distressing together with wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age, including the visor's broken left side and crumbling to much of the padding.
