Upon arrival at Lauterbrunnen railway station, which is where George Lazenby first arrives in the film disguised as Sir Hilary Bray and is met by Irma Bunt played by the late Ilse Steppat, we unloaded our suitcases and walked across the road to catch the funicular railway up to Grutschalp, 1486m higher up the mountain. Unfortunately, due to another member of the coach party holding up the courier we missed our scheduled connection and had to wait an hour for the next car. When we eventually reached Grutschalp we were relieved to find the train was waiting to take us on to the village of Murren, our final destination point. |

We were met at Murren Bahnhof by a porter wearing a peaked cap from the hotel, and who was pulling a very large sleigh which was to take our luggage the short walk (Murren is a traffic-free resort), to the Hotel Edelweiss, our home for the next week. |

By now it was gone 9pm, the Starbucks skinny latté with blueberry muffin I had eaten at Gatwick and the light snack consumed on the aircraft had become but a dim memory for my stomach. Thankfully though the hotel were prepared for our late arrival and ‘we needn’t worry as we would have a little time to unpack, freshen up, and dinner would be waiting for us’. |
