Treasures from Film and Television 3rd-7th November 2022

Many important James Bond props and costumes are to be auctioned in London by PROPSTORE as part of their Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction from 3rd to 7th November 2022. A significant sale of almost 1,500 props and costumes from Film and Television, includes 71 lots featuring important items from the James Bond films 1962-2012.

Listed below are some of the more significant James Bond related items, many of which have never been offered in auction before.

Lot #567 Live And Let Die (1973) Paul and Linda McCartney Signed Contract

An important contract personally signed by Paul and Linda McCartney from the production of Live And Let Die (1973). Paul McCartney was asked by the film's producers, Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, to write the theme song. ‘Live And Let Die’, co-written by McCartney and his wife Linda, was performed by their group Wings and achieved success in the UK and US charts. It was nominated for an Academy Award® and remains one of the most beloved Bond theme songs.

Dated “March 1, 1973”, the nine-page typed contract outlines the agreement to write the song, between Paul and Linda McCartney (referred to as “McCartney Music Ltd”) and United Artist's Music Limited. The last page is signed in blue ballpoint pen by the McCartneys, plus representatives from United Artists Music Limited and ATV Music Limited. Lot #1041 You Only Live Twice (1967) Peter Nelson Collection Stunt and Metal Ninja Weaponry

A set of stunt and metal weaponry from You Only Live Twice (1967). Four-pointed throwing stars featured in Tiger Tanaka's (Tetsuro Tamba) ninja school, where James Bond (Sean Connery) trained.

The lot comprises six four-pointed stunt shuriken (throwing stars), each with a small hole in the middle; two stunt tekko (knuckle dusters); two stunt pommelled kunai (throwing knives); a stunt tsuki yari (crescent blade); and two metal pommelled tekko-kagi (three-pronged claws). The stunt weapons are made of moulded resin and show signs of wear from production. The stunt shuriken each have small holes in the middle that were created when they were mounted in a museum display case.

A collection of 35mm footage from the production and promotion of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). These film rolls and trims were used by Maurice Binder to create the trailer, teaser trailer and, most memorably, the opening title sequence.

Maurice Binder designed the famous opening titles of 14 James Bond movies, beginning with Dr. No (1962). He was also responsible for producing the iconic gun barrel sequence that has opened most Bond films to date.

This set comprises two metal Kodak film cans containing fully spooled reels, with labels detailing the film type, subject and length of the reel. The metal cans exhibit significant rusting from age. Lot #1044 The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) Valerie Leon's Bikini, Autographed Card and Photo

A bikini worn by actor Valerie Leon during the promotion of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Leon appeared as the hotel receptionist in the Sardinia scenes, and posed for promotional shots wearing this bikini. The bikini is accompanied by a handwritten card by Leon, and the photograph is signed “With love Valerie Leon”.

The red bikini has wear from age, use and storage, including markings from chlorinated water. It was previously mounted on a display, and the bottoms have stretched, becoming sheer at the back and front. Dimensions (photo): 24cm X 18.5cm (9½" X 7¼") Estimate: £600-£800 [Sold for £750]

Bond disguised himself as one of the knife throwing twins, Mischka and Grischka (David and Anthony Meyer), on the Octopussy circus train. The lot includes a red cotton shirt with “Roger” handwritten on the collar label, and a black leather belt with a large metal buckle and studs running up its length. Estimate: £3,000-£5,000

Octopussy's (Maud Adams) bolas from Octopussy (1983). Octopussy used her bolas to take down a guard as she and her henchwomen assaulted Kamal Khan's (Louis Jourdan) palace. The bolas are made of resin and are egg-shaped. The top of the bolas are painted to resemble metal and each are attached to a length of gold-coloured rope. A unique collection of 35mm footage from the production and promotion of A View To A Kill (1985). These film rolls and trims were used by film title designer Maurice Binder to create the movie's trailers and, most memorably, the opening title sequence.

The collection comprises 24 metal film cans with labels, reference tape strips and some note pages. It includes the final main title sequence, the gun barrel sequence for the trailer, title trims, unused title sections, various scenes from the film, unused FX shots and more. The collection was acquired on the closure of the storage facility for a UK distribution centre in 1998. Most of the celluloid remains in good condition, with a few rolls showing signs of age. Lot #1051 A View To A Kill (1985) Peter Nelson Collection James Bond's Credit Card

James Bond's (Roger Moore) credit card from A View To A Kill (1985). Bond used his card to unlock a window and gain entrance to Stacey Sutton's (Tanya Roberts) house.

Made of plastic, the front of the card is black with gold-coloured lettering, and the rear is black with a white signature strip. The card front features a logo for “The Sharper Image”; the expiry date “11 87”; an embossed 16-digit credit card number across the centre; and “007” in the lower left corner. The rear of the card features Bond's signature, and beneath the signature strip are the words “Authorized Signature” and legal terms. The gold colourant on the card front is slightly abraded. A security guard jacket from A View To A Kill (1985). Jackets were worn by security guards at the entrance to Max Zorin's (Christopher Walken) ‘Zorin Industries’ San Andreas Lake mine.

The blue-grey wool jacket features a short collar; button epaulettes; dual chest patch pockets; satin interior lining; and a green-and-white fabric applique patch on each shoulder featuring the Zorin Industries “Z” logo. Included in the lot are two extra “Z” patches, one large and one small. The jacket exhibits minor signs of production wear. Estimate £600-£800 [Sold for £750]

A Roman emperor statue head and photo from The Living Daylights (1987). Arms dealer Brad Whitaker (Joe Don Baker) was fascinated with military history and war and had a pantheon of great military commanders at his headquarters, but all the heads were modelled after his. This head is fibreglass with resin eyes and is painted a caucasian skin tone. It sits on a wooden stand to maintain its shape and has some wear from age and use, including a chip to the right ear and some scuffing. It is accompanied by a black & white photo of the statue next to Whitaker. Dimensions: 31cm X 34cm X 44.5 cm (12¼" X 13½" X 17½")

Lot #1055 The Living Daylights (1987) Peter Nelson Collection Trans Siberian Pipeline Jumpsuit

A Trans Siberian Pipeline jumpsuit from The Living Daylights (1987). A worker at the Trans Siberian Pipeline plant (Peter Porteus) wore a jumpsuit when he was seduced by his co-worker Rosika Miklos (Julia T. Wallace).

Made from blue cotton, the jumpsuit has six press studs running down the front, pleated cuffs and hems, a rear back pocket and a front breast patch pocket. The pipeline logo has been screen-printed onto patches on the back and breast pocket. There is a Bermans & Nathans label located in the collar reading “Pipeline Worker 5250, Living Daylights”. There are some stains on the legs of the jumpsuit.

Lot #1056 Licence To Kill (1989) Peter Nelson Collection Milton Krest SFX Head

Milton Krest's (Anthony Zerbe) SFX head from Licence To Kill (1989). Krest was killed by drug lord Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi) inside a decompression chamber when Sanchez turned up the pressure valve and then ruptured the vent with an axe. The rapid decompression caused Krest's head to violently explode.

Created by special effects supervisor John Richardson based on a mould of Zerbe's face, the head is made of foam latex with an airbrush finish to create a fleshy texture. Hair has been applied to represent eyebrows, eyelashes, a moustache and a receding mane. The addition of ceramic teeth and acrylic eyes gives the head an unsettlingly lifelike appearance. The latex is glued to a wooden base featuring a metal valve, into which air could be pumped to create the effect of Krest's head expanding. There is a small tear in the latex at the bridge of the nose and a 4 cm hole in the wooden base. Dimensions: 41cm X 47cm X 21cm (16" X 18½" X 8½")

Lot #1059 Licence To Kill (1989) Peter Nelson Collection Dario's Knife

Dario's (Benicio del Toro) knife from Licence To Kill (1989). Dario hid his knife in his jacket sleeve and used it to kill people on the orders of drug lord Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi). Among those stabbed by Dario were Felix Leiter's (David Hedison) bride Della Churchill (Priscilla Barnes) and Alvarez (Gerardo Albarrán), the lover of Sanchez's girlfriend, Lupe Lamora (Talisa Soto).

The knife has a circular steel pommel; a black plastic handle with an ergonomic grip; a steel cross guard; and a fixed steel blade with a spear point. At the base of the blade are the words “BLACK PANTHER SOLINGEN GERMANY”, with “#064” on the reverse side. There are several rust spots on the blade. Dimensions: 28cm X 5cm X 1cm (11" X 2" X ½")

Five Monte Carlo Casino playing cards from GoldenEye (1995). After defeating a fellow gambler, Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) played a game of baccarat with James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) at the Monte Carlo Casino.

This set of playing cards consists of a 2 of diamonds, a 7 of hearts, a 5 of spades, a 2 of spades, and a club with a drawing of a wreath around it. Each is printed on glossy white cardstock. They exhibit minor edge wear and mild tearing from production. Dimensions (each): 10.25cm X 7.75cm (4" X 3")

Lot #1062 GoldenEye (1995) Peter Nelson Collection Six Nerve Gas Barrels

Six nerve gas barrels from GoldenEye (1995). Barrels were used as set decoration in the opening scenes as James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) and Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) infiltrate a Soviet chemical weapon production facility. The barrels also collapse on top of Soviet soldiers after they attempt to subdue Bond.

The set consists of five plastic Mauser® oil canisters and one foam cast one; each has been painted silver with black and red Cyrillic lettering and numbers. The foam barrel shows scorch marks, bullet holes and damage to the top and bottom from use on set. Dimensions (Each) 65.6cm X 40cm X 40 cm (25¾" X 15¾" X 15¾")

Lot #1063 Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) Peter Nelson Collection Stunt GPS Encoder Box

A stunt GPS encoder box from Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). During the opening sequence, terrorist-for-hire Henry Gupta (Ricky Jay) was surveilled purchasing a GPS encoder at an arms bazaar. He later used it at the behest of media mogul Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce) to divert HMS Devonshire into Chinese territorial waters and spark a war.

The cuboid encoder box is made of metal encased in resin that is painted red. The resin shell features smooth, rounded edges and textured flat panels. The lot exhibits signs of production wear, including flakes to the red paint, and a small section of the hinge barrel is missing. Dimensions: 33cm X 10cm X 6cm (13" X 4" X 2½")

James Bond's (Pierce Brosnan) MI6 ID card from The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002). In a deleted scene, Bond used his ID card to open a door as he rushed to try and save Sir Robert King (David Calder) from his explosive money.

The ID features a picture of Bond and his MI6 information. The card is made of metal, with the information printed on plastic adhered to the ID. James Bond's (Pierce Brosnan) stunt submachine gun from Die Another Day (2002). Bond used his sub-machine gun as he tried to escape from a North Korean military base run by Colonel Tan-Sun Moon (Will Yun Lee).

This stunt version of an Ingram Military Armament Corp M10 9mm sub-machine gun is made from dense foam rubber. It features such details as an engraved serial number; front and rear sights; a trigger guard; various screw fixtures; a non-moving safety catch; a non-moving pull bolt; a trigger; and an engraved barrel. The gun displays light scratches and chips to the foam rubber. Dimensions: 30cm X 25.5cm X 4.5cm (12" X 10" X 1¾")

Lot #1075 Die Another Day (2002) Jinx Johnson's Hero Knife

Jinx Johnson's (Halle Berry) hero throwing knife from Die Another Day (2002). Jinx used her throwing knives while fighting Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike) during the film's finale, with one knife penetrating a copy of Sun Tzu's book The Art of War.

The knife is made of stainless steel with a pointed, double-edged blade that is serrated along half the length of one side. The grip has holes machined into it to give it perfect balance. The words “Stainless” and “Rostfrei” are engraved at the base of the blade. Dimensions: 22cm X 4cm X 0.5cm (8¾" X 1½" X ¼")

James Bond's (Pierce Brosnan) Aston Martin action car components from Die Another Day (2002). Bond used his car to smash into the flooded ice palace room to save Jinx (Halle Berry).

Made of plastic, this set includes three original Aston Martin pieces from the vehicle and a headlight. Holes are present where spikes assisted the wall breach. The top nose section is split, with a replica Aston Martin logo. It is mounted and has been autographed by 2nd unit director Vic Armstrong, Bond director John Glen and art director Peter Lamont. Lot #1079 Casino Royale (2006) Set of Four Newspapers

A set of four newspapers from Casino Royale (2006). M (Judi Dench) threw a copy of the Evening Standard onto her table after being startled by Bond (Daniel Craig) when he broke into her home. The other production made newspapers were ultimately not seen in the final cut of the film.

The lot comprises a copy of the Evening Standard, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph and the International Herald Tribune, all dated Friday 7 July 2006. Each front cover features headlines and CCTV images relating to Bond's assassination of Mollaka (Sébastian Foucan). Interior filler pages are present within The Independent, and some of the newspapers exhibit small tears along some edges.
