Ahead of the much-anticipated 50th anniversary of the release of the first Bond film, Dr. No on October 5th, an international survey of 007 MAGAZINE readers has rated On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), starring George Lazenby and directed by Peter Hunt, as the greatest Bond film of all time. Readers of 007 MAGAZINE were asked to rate all 24 Bond films (including the 'unofficial' 1967 spoof version of Casino Royale and the rogue 1983 Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again) on a scale from 0-10. The average score for each film was then calculated, with OHMSS averaging an impressive 8.912 to finish ahead of second-placed Goldfinger (1964) - average mark 8.824, and third-placed From Russia With Love (1963) - average mark 8.802. The only post-1960s film to feature in the Top Five was Daniel Craig's debut as Bond, 2006's Casino Royale, which averaged 8.324 to finish in fourth position. Four of the top six movies in the final standings starred Sean Connery, while the highest placed entries featuring the other Bond actors were The Living Daylights in seventh position (1987, starring Timothy Dalton as 007); The Spy Who Loved Me in eighth position (1977, starring Roger Moore as 007) and GoldenEye in ninth position (1995, starring Pierce Brosnan as 007). The spoof version of Casino Royale (1967), which featured David Niven as Sir James Bond, finished 24th and last in the survey, averaging just 2.601, while Die Another Day (2002), Pierce Brosnan's final Bond film, came second-last, averaging just 4.576. In all, readers from 18 different countries around the world contributed to the survey, with a total of over 3,000 votes being cast. Graham Rye, editor &
