In 2012 Penguin Books
also released Ian Fleming's James Bond novels and short story anthologies
under their Vintage Paperbacks imprint. Vintage Paperbacks was initially
created to publish paperback editions of books bought by the prestigious
literary hardback imprints in the Penguin Random House Group, namely
Jonathan Cape, Chatto & Windus, Harvill Secker and The Bodley Head.
The series was concurrently available alongside the ‘VINTAGE 007’ series
which existed solely of James Bond titles written by Ian Fleming and
Kingsley Amis.
Issued in three waves in
late 2012, the series features stock black & white photographic covers
by Head Design each showing a building, city or location linked to
the story, and the figure of a male model posing as James Bond seen from
behind holding a Walther PPK. It must be said that the covers are probably
the most uninspired of any James Bond paperbacks ever issued in the UK,
and it is no surprise that many of these titles ended up being distributed
via discount bookshops up and down the country. |
Also available in this
series is THE SPECTRE TRILOGY – a collection containing THUNDERBALL, ON
HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. The three paperbacks
are identical to the standalone versions but housed in a custom card
slipcase. This collection was issued to tie-in with the release of Daniel
Craig's fourth Bond film Spectre in 2015. A similar collection was issued
under the ‘VINTAGE 007’ imprint, but this contained all three novels in
one paperback rather than repackaging the existing titles. |
